2009 Acura TSX Adds Power And Improves Handling

The redesign of the 2009 TSX, now in its second generation, has made it larger, more powerful, and still more athletic. Even as Acura's entry-level sedan, it sets an impressively high bar when it comes to comfort, safety and handling standards.
The TSX's performance prowess is derived from a very capable all-aluminum 2.4 liter DOHC i-VTEC in-line 4-cylinder engine rated at 201 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 172 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. This new engine has improved torque by 5%, produces its useable power across a much wider rpm range, and achieves cleaner emissions at the same time.
The result is a quicker and more responsive driving experience while still getting gas mileage of 20 mpg city and 28 mpg highway with the manual, and 21 mpg city and 24 mpg highway with the automatic.
The improved performance has also been enhanced by a higher compression ratio, revised valve timing, and improvements to both intake and exhaust gas flow. Overall, the TSX has power characteristics similar to a V6 without losing the lighter weight and fuel efficiency of an inline four.
The Acura TSX is offered with two transmission choices. There's a 6-speed performance oriented manual, as well as a Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic. The automatic can also now be manually operated via steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.
Redesigned body dimensions of the new TSX have increased width by three inches and the wheel track by 2.6 inches. This wider stance has increased handling dynamics while also producing additional interior roominess and comfort.
Another positive for interior roominess and ride quality is the fact that the 2009 TSX is also 2.4 inches longer with a 1.3 inch longer wheelbase. Electric Power Steering (EPS) is also now standard on the TSX (from the NSX sports car), and the rear disc brakes have been enlarged to 11.1 inches from 10.2.
Interior features are also impressive and include crafted metal door sills, satin-metal finish accents, leather-covered seats, steering-wheel mounted controls, 7-speaker sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and Bluetooth connectivity.
Standard features also include air conditioning, interior air filter, tilt/telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, heated front bucket seats, 8-way power driver seat with lumbar adjustment, driver seat and mirror memory system, 4-way power passenger seat, center console, split folding rear seat, heated power mirrors with turn signals and passenger-side tilt-down back-up aid, power sunroof, AM/FM/CD/MP3, satellite radio, digital media connection, tachometer, compass, automatic day/night rearview mirror, universal garage door opener, illuminated visor mirrors, variable-intermittent wipers, rear defogger, automatic-off headlights, theft-deterrent system, xenon headlights, fog lights, and 17 inch alloy wheels.
Safety features include standard dual front airbags, front side airbags, curtain side airbags, front-seat active head restraints, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes (ABS), brake assist, antiskid system, tire-pressure monitor, daytime running lights, and an emergency inside trunklid release.
Also available and adding still more features is the Technology Package, which includes a navigation system with voice recognition, traffic and weather information, rearview camera, AM/FM radio with an in-dash 6-disc CD/MP3/DVD Audio changer, and an upgraded sound system.
Update: Weak Economy Leads To Lower Acura TSX Prices:
Car sales have been weak for over a year now due to the poor economy, including Acura's. There was a small bounce during the "Cash For Clunkers" program, but the market quickly returned to its overall slow sales environment.
And once again, the combination of fierce competition and a soft market has created an ideal opportunity for nailing down great deals.
