The Audi A6 has long been noted for its elegant design, all-wheel-drive availability and finely fashioned cabins. The 2009 A6 ups the ante with an all new supercharged V6 engine that delivers 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. With this balance of looks, amenities and power, the 2009 Audi A6 is a serious contender in its class.
The 2009 A6 is offered in both sedan and wagon (Avant) forms. Trim levels are determined by engine size: base 3.2, midlevel 3.0T Quattro and the top-level 4.2 Quattro.
In addition, each model comes with one of three feature packages: Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige (the Prestige package is not available on the base 3.2 and comes standard on all 4.2 models).
The Premium package is standard on the 3.2 and 3.0T Quattro models and includes leather upholstery, power front seats with adjustable lumbar support (and heated on the Quattro), dual-zone automatic climate control, trip computer, tilt and telescoping steering column, sunroof, 17 inch wheels, Audi's MMI systems controller, Bluetooth, and an AM/FM stereo system with a glovebox CD changer, satellite radio and an iPod input.
The Premium Plus package adds bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, 18 inch wheels, driver memory, heated auto-dimming exterior mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, and aluminum door sills.
The top-of-the-line Prestige trim adds keyless entry and ignition, shift paddles, adaptive headlights, a unique version of 18 inch wheels, back-up camera, power-adjustable steering column, navigation with voice-recognition capability, an upgraded surround-sound stereo, and a color trip computer. Also, the 4.2 Quattro comes with sporty S line exterior styling accents.
Available stand-alone options depend on the trim level and include rear side airbags, a blind-spot warning system, and a Cold Weather package (heated rear seats and steering wheel, plus heated front seats on the base 3.2 model).
All 2009 A6 engines feature direct fuel injection technology. Powering the 3.2 is a 3.1 liter V6 engine that produces 255 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque. The A6 3.0T is equipped with the aforementioned, and very athletic, 300 hp 3.0 liter supercharged V6. The A6 4.2 Quattro features a 4.2 liter V8 that boasts 350 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. Any of the engines are available in the sedan, while the Avant wagon is available with the 3.0T only.
The A6 3.2 is front-wheel-drive and comes with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) featuring driver-selected shift points. The other A6 models are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and the Quattro AWD (all-wheel-drive) system.
EPA gas mileage estimates for the 3.2 are 18 mpg city and 27 mpg on the highway. The 3.0T is gas mileage rated at 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. Mileage for the 4.2 Quattro is estimated at 16 city and 23 highway.
Standard safety features on all 2009 A6s include stability control, antilock disc brakes, front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. Rear-seat side airbags are available as an option.
