The M3, based on the compact 3-Series, has a long list of standard features, including 18 inch alloy wheels, performance tires, xenon headlamps, leather upholstery, cruise control, automatic climate control, sport seats with driver memory, split-folding rear seats and a 10-speaker sound system with CD player and auxiliary audio jack.
All M3s are equipped with a sport-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes and a limited-slip rear differential, while the M3 coupe also comes with a carbon-fiber roof.
Opting for the premium package adds BMW Assist, unique interior trim accents and power-folding mirrors.
The technology package adds M Drive (driver adjustable throttle response and steering), keyless ignition and entry, voice-activated navigation, iDrive and electronically controlled dampers.
Available stand-alone options include 19 inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, sunroof (on the sedan only), rear park assist, an upgraded sound system, HD radio, satellite radio and an iPod adapter.
Powering the 2009 M3 is a 4.0 liter V8 engine that delivers 414 horsepower and 295 lb-feet of torque. It's matched to a standard six-speed manual transmission. Available as an option is a M DCT seven-speed dual-clutch automated-manual gearbox which allows for manual operation through steering-wheel-mounted paddles as well as a full automatic mode.
EPA gas mileage estimates for the M3 are 14 mpg city and 20 mpg on the highway for both the coupe and sedan. Gas mileage for the convertible with the six-speed manual drops slightly to 13 mpg city.
Standard safety features for the 2009 M3 include antilock disc brakes, stability control, traction control, front-seat side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags.
Update: Bad Economy Leads To Lower M3 Prices:
BMW's sales have been weak for months now, evidence of a continuing poor economy and an especially weak car buying trend. And the current combination of fierce dealer competition and a soft market has created an ideal opportunity for nailing down great deals.
