The Chevy Impala owns one of America’s top sales track records in midsize sedans. In fact, it's second only to the Toyota Camry ... and given the intense competition in this segment, that's very good company to keep indeed.
The Impala's success is due to its appealing design, long list of standard features and powerful, yet gas efficient, powertrains.
2009 Chevrolet Impala Hightlights:
First of all, when it comes to the combination of power and fuel efficiency, the Impala impresses like few others. Its standard 3.5 liter V6 engine is EPA-rated at 29 mpg on the highway. Not only is this good, it also actually meets or beats many smaller cars. In addition, both the 3.5 liter and 3.9 liter engines are available with E85 FlexFuel capability.
Even the 5.3 liter V8 Chevy Impala SS is an efficient performer. With its 303 horsepower its highway gas mileage rating is 24 mpg.
Changes for the 2009 Impala include:
- Anti-lock brakes (ABS) and traction control are now standard features on all models.
- Bluetooth hands-free calling is available as an option through the OnStar system and the Impala's audio system.
- New standard safety features include thorax side-impact air bags and safety belt pretensioners for the front-seat lap belts.
- The Impala SS gets new 18-inch flangeless, polished aluminum wheels.
- There's a common SS-style rear spoiler design for all models.
- There's a revised rocker molding design.
- Dual-zone climate control is now standard on all models.
- Illuminated vanity mirrors for the driver and front passenger are also now standard equipment on all models.
- Three new exterior colors have been added: Silver Ice Metallic, Aqua Blue Metallic and Victory Red. Discontinued are Precision Red, Dark Silver Metallic and Silverstone Metallic.
Winning features similar to recent model years:
While the Impala LS, LT and LTZ models each have unique identifying exteriors, the Impala SS has a distinct front-end appearance that includes a dual-split grille with a SS-signature black-diamond crosshatch pattern.
Incidentally, if you are seriously thinking about buying this vehicle, there is definitely a method for getting the absolute best price on a new Impala.
A rear spoiler is standard on LTZ and SS models and is available as an option on the LT. The Impala SS also has the bright exhaust tips inspired from the Corvette.
In the interior, Impala LS, LT and LTZ models are wood-trimmed, while the "technical" trim is standard on the Impala SS (wood-trim is an option). An eight-way, heated power driver seat is standard on LTZ and SS, as is leather upholstery. A six-way power driver seat is standard on the LS and LT, as are cloth seats.
Three audio systems are also available: There's a base six-speaker MP3/CD radio, an uplevel ICDX radio that adds an in-dash six-CD changer, and a premium Bose audio system.
The Impala LS and LT models are equipped with the FE1 suspension tuning that provides excellent control without compromising ride quality. This package also includes 16-inch wheels. LT models equipped with the 3.9 liter V6 get 17-inch wheels.
The Impala LTZ and SS models come with a FE3 suspension, which includes 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels to enhance the sporty ride performance. And this suspension's increased stiffness reduces lean and increases stability. These models also have a 34-mm hollow front stabilizer bar and 18-mm solid rear stabilizer bar.
Standard in LTZ and available in LT models is the 3.9 liter V6 engine with E85 FlexFuel capability. This engine is rated at 224 horsepower and 235 lb.-ft. of torque.
The Impala SS is powered by the 5.3 liter all-aluminum small-block V8 and produces 303 horsepower and 323 lb.-ft. of torque.
