After last year's major introduction of the LS3 6.2 liter V-8 engine as the new standard engine, the 2009 Corvette follows with the introduction of a host of new features. There's even a lower-priced convertible model.
The biggest change for the new Corvette is the ZR1 model, with its 6.2 liter supercharged engine that produces 638-horsepower coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission. The ZR1 also has a unique suspension tuning and uses lightweight carbon fiber on the hood, roof, front fascia splitter, and rocker moldings. It also has a six figure price tag (see below).
Overall, 2009 Corvette models also include the Corvette coupe and Corvette convertible, each powered by the 430-horsepower LS3 V-8 engine, and of course, the street version of the championship-winning Corvette racing program, the Corvette Z06, with its 505-horsepower LS7 engine and lightweight chassis.
New For The 2009 Model Year:
- A less expensive Corvette 1LT convertible is now available. In addition, the 2LT convertible now has a power top as standard equipment.
- Color choices have been raised to nine with the addition of Cyber Gray Metallic and Blade Silver Metallic (Machine Silver Metallic has been discontinued).
- The truly iconic Corvette crossed flags emblem has been slightly revised to include a bright surround.
- Joining the Sienna and Linen custom leather-wrapped interiors, are two new choices; Dark Titanium and Ebony.
- A Bluetooth hands-free phone service is now available as an option.
- The convenient power hatch pull-down feature is now standard on Corvette coupe and Z06 models.
- Steering wheel audio controls and variable-ratio steering are now standard on all models.
- There's also been revisions to the anti-locking braking, traction control and Magnetic Ride Control systems.
There are several changes in the Corvette Z06 as well:
- Newly designed 10-spoke silver painted spider aluminum wheels in sizes 18 inch x 9.5 inch (front) and 19 inch x 12 inch (rear).
- Color-keyed door and instrument panels with red and titanium interiors.
- The power-operated pull-down hatch is standard.
- Stitching changed from red to gray on Ebony base seats.
- New door sill plates with the Z06 logo.
- The Acoustic package is now standard.
- The Z06 also gets the larger 10.5-quart dry-sump oiling system (was 8-quarts) from the new ZR1.
As with the 2008 model year, the 2009 Corvette is equipped with either a six-speed manual transmission (standard) or an optional six-speed automatic with paddle-shift control. The six-speed manual comes with a more performance-oriented gearing when ordered with the Z51 Performance Package.
Update: Weak Economy Leads To Lower Chevy Corvette Prices:
GM's sales have been weak for over a year now due to the poor economy, including Chevrolet's. The bottom line? The current combination of a soft market along with fierce dealer competition has created the perfect opportunity for nailing down great deals.
