The 2009 Ford Focus is an affordable car that delivers gas mileage of up to 35 mpg, advanced features such as SYNC, good build quality and impressive driving capabilities.
SYNC is a voice-activated communications and entertainment system allowing drivers to use their Bluetooth-enabled cell phones as well as digital media players. SYNC is standard equipment on the SES and an option on the SE.
And there's a new look this year ... it's a sportier coupe. The Focus coupe has new front and rear fascias, standard fog lamps, a new roof-line spoiler and standard 17-inch aluminum wheels (on the SES).
Driving performance has also been improved. First, horsepower has been increased on the five-speed manual models. And second, faster acceleration has been delivered on the four-speed automatic models through the use of a new 4.2 final drive ratio, resulting in quicker off-the-line acceleration as well as a faster 0-60 mph time.
Also aiding performance is a new option for 2009: electronic stability control (ESC), which uses sensors and the anti-lock braking system to help correct skids.
The Focus is also available as a sedan. Trim levels include S, SE, SES and SEL (new for 2009). The S and SEL models are sedan only. The S coupe has been dropped for this model year.
All Focus models are equipped with a 2.0 liter, Duratec 20 dual-overhead-cam, and inline 4-cylinder engine. It's rated at 143 horsepower with the five-speed manual transmission and 140 horsepower with the four-speed automatic.
In addition, there's a very clean 130 horsepower Duratec 20E engine that qualifies the Focus in California as a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV).
Focus S: Features on the S model include dual front airbags, front side airbags, curtain side airbags, tire-pressure monitor, air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, cloth upholstery, front bucket seats, center console, split folding rear seat, AM/FM/CD/MP3 player, digital-media player connection, tachometer, rear defogger, intermittent wipers, floormats, theft-deterrent system, 15 inch wheels and wheel covers.
Focus SE: The SE adds power mirrors (sedan), heated power mirrors (coupe), power windows, power door locks, remote entry system, satellite radio, fog lights (coupe), rear spoiler (coupe) and 16 inch alloy wheels.
Focus SES: The SES model adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, cruise control, heated power mirrors, wireless cell phone link, voice recognition, iPod adapter, automatic day/night rearview mirror, compass, universal garage door opener, rear spoiler, sport suspension and 17 inch alloy wheels (coupe).
Focus SEL: The newly available SEL trim adds leather upholstery and heated front seats.
