New 2009 Ford Ranger Features And Prices

The Ford Ranger has never been out to impress for luxurious features or abundant space. But if you're looking for a strong, affordably priced work truck with excellent off-roader prowess, a new Ford Ranger may just fit the bill.

While the Ranger's compact size and rugged frame make it an ideal trail tamer, it's available 7-foot bed (the largest in its class) enables a lot of cargo hauling as well. And when properly equipped, 4.0 liter V6 Rangers can tow 6,000 pounds.

The 2009 Ford Ranger is offered in regular-cab and SuperCab (extended-cab) body styles. Each is available in XL, XLT and Sport trims. And the SuperCab is also available in the FX4 Off-Road trim.

While a 6-foot bed is standard on all cabs and trims, a 7-foot bed is an option on the regular-cab XL and XLT.

Other standard features on the XL include 15 inch steel wheels, a 60/40 front bench seat (vinyl in the regular cab, cloth in the SuperCab) and an AM/FM stereo.

The XLT model adds air conditioning, a CD/MP3 player, an auxiliary audio jack, and chrome exterior trim, all of which are available as options on the XL.

The Sport version then adds satellite radio, some unique styling elements, a Class III trailer hitch, and different wheels.

The best equipped Ranger is the FX4 Off-Road which offers full power accessories, keyless entry, cruise control, 16 inch alloy wheels, all-terrain tires, heavy-duty shocks, skid plates, a limited-slip rear axle, bucket seats, a center console, leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel, and two-tone paint.

Available optional features on the XLT and Sport models include full power accessories, cruise control, keyless entry, leather upholstery, bucket seats, inward-facing fold-down jump seats (on the SuperCab only), tilt steering wheel, and upgraded stereo.

The 2009 Ranger is powered by either an inline 4-cylinder or V6 engine. The inline-4 is a 2.3 liter engine that produces 143 horsepower and 154 pound-feet of torque. The optional 4.0 liter V6 delivers 207 horsepower and 238 lb-ft of torque.

Most models are available in either two or four-wheel-drive. The standard transmission is a five-speed manual, while there's also an optional five-speed automatic.

Gas mileage estimates range from 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway on a 2WD 4-cylinder Ranger with a manual transmission, to 14 mpg city and 18 mpg highway on a 4WD V6 Ranger with an automatic transmission.

Update: Bad Economy Leads To Lower Ford Ranger Prices:

Ford's sales have been weak for months now, evidence of a continuing poor economy and an especially weak car buying trend. There was a small bounce during the "Cash For Clunkers" program, but the market quickly returned to its previous poor condition.

And once again, the combination of fierce competition and a soft market has created an ideal opportunity for nailing down great deals.
