If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The Accord has a long history of excellence behind it, so there was no need for Honda to take on any major overhaul for the 2009 model year. With just some minor alterations, the 2009 is very likely to please once again.

The Accord is available as either a sedan or a coupe and is powered by an advanced 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine or a 3.5 liter V6. The driving quality is smooth and relatively quiet, however, with the firmer suspension and wider tires of the coupe, both road noise and bounce are more noticeable, although certainly not a spoiling issue.

The bottom line is a double wishbone front suspension, a multi-link rear suspension (this is a premium feature in the mid-size segment) that results in a spirited handling performance while still providing a comfortable ride.

Transmissions include a 5-speed manual that's standard with all 4-cylinder engines, a 5-speed automatic that's standard on the V6 sedan (and available as an option on all 4-cylinder engines and V6 Accord Coupes) and a 6-speed manual transmission only available on the Accord Coupe EX-L V6.

The new Accord also continues Honda's emphasis on safety with features such as standard electronic stability control, standard side curtain airbags, standard four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, and the Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE®) body structure

Available premium technology options can include (depending on the model) the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with Voice Activation, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® and XM® Satellite Radio2..

Sedan trim levels include the well-equipped Accord LX and plus-featured LX-P both with a 177-horsepower 4-cylinder engine, the still better-equipped Accord EX with a 190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine or a 271-horsepower V6, and the upscale Accord EX-L with either a 190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine or a 271-horsepower V6.

Coupe trims range include the well-equipped Accord Coupe LX-S with a 190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine, the even better-equipped Accord Coupe EX also with the 190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine, and the premium Accord Coupe EX-L with either a 190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine or the 271-horsepower V6.

The interior of the new 2009 Accord is thoughtfully designed, dynamic and upscale. A zone styling design has operation-related instruments on the top and information-related instruments lower. At night, controls are also separated by color to differentiate, for example, climate controls (aqua green) and audio controls (white).

The Accord Coupe's styling is a radical break from the sedan with a unique and aggressive cut. Its also slightly smaller than the sedan, measuring 3.2 inches shorter in length, 1.7 inches shorter in height and 0.1-inch wider.

The 2009 Accord Sedan comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, or 16- to 17-inch aluminum wheels depending on the model. The Accord Coupe has 17-inch aluminum wheels standard, with 18-inch aluminum wheels available on the Coupe V6.
