New 2009 Jaguar XF Features And Prices | Supercharged Premium Luxury

The all new 2009 Jaguar XF has the sleek design of a coupe, but is actually a sedan. Toss in its refined ride, luxurious features and sporty handling, and its most definitely a luxury sedan worthy of consideration.

The 2009 Jag XF is a new sport sedan, replacing the discontinued Jaguar S-Type and improving on it in just about every way imaginable. It's built on a new structure with some direct suspension component genes shared with the sporty XK. It also shares the XK's engines and transmissions and is available in V8 form only.

With its unique design, pampering features and impressive performance, it represents another clear Jaguar push into their uplevel vehicle strength.

The new XF is classified as a midsize luxury sport sedan and is available in three models: Luxury, Premium Luxury and Supercharged.

Standard Features And Options:

Standard features on the already well-appointed Luxury model include full power accessories, a leather interior, sunroof, 18 inch alloy wheels, keyless ignition, power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, auto-dimming mirrors, dual-zone climate control, 10-way power front seats, split/folding rear seat, rear parking assist, Bluetooth connectivity, and a premium sound system with CD player and auxiliary audio jack.

The Premium Luxury model has all of the above, plus 19 inch wheels, 16-way power front seats, upgraded leather, heated front seats, and a voice-activated navigation system.

The Supercharged model, as you would expect, adds a more powerful engine, plus 20 inch wheels, larger brakes, an active suspension (CATS), cooled front seats, bi-xenon headlights, rearview camera, front park assist, a power rear sunshade, and an upgraded sound system with satellite radio and a 6-disc CD changer.

While most of the upper level model features are available for the lower models in several option packages, there's also active cruise control and a heated steering wheel available as stand-alone options.

Engines, Powertrain And Gas Mileage:

Powering both the rear-wheel drive Luxury and Premium Luxury models is a 4.2 liter V8 engine that delivers 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. It's coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission that can also be shifted manually through steering-wheel-mounted paddles. Jaguar says that both of these models can go from a standstill to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds.

The Supercharged model gets a supercharged version of the same V8 and produces 420 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in a fleet 5.1 seconds.

The EPA estimated gas mileage for the XF Luxury And Premium Luxury models comes in at 16 mpg city and 25 mpg on the highway. The Supercharged model is rated at 15 mpg city and 23 highway.

Safety:

Standard safety features on all XF models include antilock disc brakes, stability control, front side airbags, active front head restraints, and full-length side curtain airbags. In addition, the Supercharged model comes with a blind spot monitor.

Interior:

Although a "sport" sedan, the interior of the Jaguar XF favors a more spacious environment as opposed to the more traditional cockpit style. It's well-designed, attractive, feature-laden and user-friendly.

It's also has a quite high tech look and feel. For example, the console-mounted start button pulses red as it waits to be fired up. Then a unique dial that controls the transmission rises from the center console into your hand. There's also a touchscreen interface for the audio, climate and navigation system, eliminating the need of a console mouse.

The XF also nicely balances Jaguar's traditional wood trim finishes with modern metallic accents and elegant blue instrument lighting. And despite its sleek, coupe-like appearance, the rear doors are wide for easy access. There's almost 38 inches of rear headroom and 37 inches of rear legroom. The trunk is also surprisingly roomy, coming in at 17.7 cubic feet.

Drive:

Jaguar has tuned the suspension of the XF to favor ride comfort a bit more than sporty performance, although it still has very respectable cornering ability. Both engines offer nice acceleration, but also perform smoothly and quietly.
