2009 Lexus GS Features, Invoice Prices

The new 2009 Lexus GS received few changes for the model year and maintains its well-earned reputation for refined ride quality, impressive handling, strong engine, excellent build quality, and quiet and luxurious interior.

The Lexus GS 350 is equipped with a 303 horsepower 3.5 liter V6 engine that produces 274 pound-feet of torque. It's coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift mode, and this midsize luxury sport sedan is available in either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The GS 350 goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds, and without breaking the bank in terms of fuel costs. The EPA gas mileage ratings for rear-wheel-drive versions are 19 mpg city and 27 mpg on the highway. All-wheel-drive models come in at 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

The 2009 Lexus GS 460 is powered by a 4.6 liter V8 engine that delivers 342 horsepower and is mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission (again, with manual shift control). While the 460 lacks the all-wheel-drive option of the GS 350, handling performance is enhanced with features such as an adaptive suspension and an optional active stabilizer system.

Some of the more upscale standard features on the GS 460 include adaptive HID headlights, 18 inch alloy wheels, sunroof, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and ventilated 10-way power front seats, and a 10-speaker sound system with a six-CD/MP3 changer, an auxiliary audio jack and a cassette player.

Available factory options include rear park assist, rain-sensing wipers, rear sunshade, satellite radio, active power stabilizer suspension system, adaptive cruise control, rear spoiler, and the 14-speaker Mark Levinson DVD surround-sound system with navigation and rearview camera.

The GS 460 goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds. EPA gas mileage ratings for the 460 are 17 mpg city and 24 mpg on the highway, which is among the better ratings for this vehicle class.

The hybrid 2009 Lexus GS 450h combines a powerful 340 horsepower 3.5 liter V6 engine with the Lexus Hybrid Drive system. The result is a car that can positively zoom from 0 to 60 in just 5.2 seconds, while being about 30% more fuel efficient than a V8 engine with similar power.

EPA-estimated gas mileage for the 450h is 22 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. What's more, the 450h's power is clean, having achieved Super-Low-Emissions Vehicle (SULEV) status.

The GS 450h hybrid is very much the same as its GS 350 and GS 460 siblings ... an excellent combination of both luxury and performance.

Premium standard features include a sunroof, leather upholstery, wood interior trim, heated and cooled front seats, driver memory settings, 18 inch wheels, adaptive suspension dampers, adaptive xenon headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth, back-up camera, keyless ignition, keyless entry, and a 10-speaker audio system with in-dash CD changer and auxiliary audio jack.

Optional choices include navigation, satellite radio, the 14-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, active antiroll bars, run-flat tires and a rear spoiler.

Available safety features on all GS models include ABS, antiskid system, traction control, curtain side airbags, front side airbags, rear side airbags, and front knee airbags. Also available are steering-linked headlamps and Lexus's Pre-Collision System, which automatically stiffens the suspension, retracts the front seatbelts and initializes brake assist if an unavoidable crash is detected.
