With its smooth, carlike ride, comfortable seating and well-built cabin, the 2009 Nissan Rogue is well worth consideration in the compact crossover segment.
The new Rogue seats five and comes in two trims: S and SL. Both are available with a choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive.
Standard features on the already well-equipped base model S include air conditioning, full power accessories, keyless entry, cruise control, tilt steering wheel, 16 inch wheels, and a four-speaker audio system with a CD player and an auxiliary jack. There are no available optional features for the S trim level.
The more upscale SL model comes standard with with all of the above, plus other features including 17 inch alloy wheels, a trip computer, a fold-down front passenger seat, tinted windows, roof rails, and a dual-level center console tray.
Available optional features for the SL are bundled into packages. The Premium Package includes foglights, keyless ignition and entry, cargo cover, a foldable cargo organizer, Bluetooth, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, and a seven-speaker Bose audio system with a 6-disc CD/MP3 changer and satellite radio. The Premium Package for all-wheel-drive SL models also includes xenon headlights and manual shift control for the transmission.
The SL Leather Package adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated side mirrors, six-way power driver seat, a one-touch driver window and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
A sunroof is not included in either package, but is available as a stand-alone option.
Update: Weak Economy Leads To Lower Rogue Prices:
Nissan's sales have been weak for months now, right along with the other carmakers. This is evidence of the continuing poor economy and an especially weak car buying trend.
The bottom line is the current combination of a soft market with fierce dealer competition has created an ideal opportunity for nailing down great deals.
See the link at the bottom of this article for exactly how to get the lowest price on a new Nissan Rogue.
Powering all 2009 Rogues is a 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. It's mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that drives either all four wheels or the front only, depending on the model. The Rogue SL has been timed going from 0 to 60 mph in a respectable 9.2 seconds, about average for a four-cylinder compact crossover.
The EPA gas mileage rating for a front-wheel-drive Rogue is 22 mpg city and 27 mpg on the highway. Gas mileage for the AWD SL drops slightly to 21 mpg city and 26 highway.
Standard safety features on all Rogue models includes antilock disc brakes, brake assist, stability control, traction control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and active front head restraints.
In government crash tests, the Rogue received a perfect five-star rating for both front and rear side-impacts. Also, in front-impact tests, driver protection again earned five-stars while front passenger protection earned four.
