Standard Features And Options:
Standard features on the already well-equipped base CX model include full power accessories, a power driver seat, 17 inch steel wheels, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel with audio controls, OnStar, and a 7-speaker sound system with a CD/MP3 player, satellite radio and an auxiliary audio jack.
Available optional features for the CX include a Comfort and Convenience package featuring remote engine start, a front power passenger seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming mirror, Bluetooth, and power driver lumbar support. 17 inch alloy wheels are also available as a stand-alone option.
Moving up to the LaCrosse CXL includes all the CX's standard and optional equipment plus foglamps, leather upholstery, heated front seats, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals and 18 inch alloy wheels.
Options for the CXL include its own Comfort and Convenience package that adds driver memory settings, rear parking sensors and auto-dimming side mirrors. There's also a Luxury package featuring keyless ignition, ventilated front seats, a heated leather and wood-grain steering wheel, and a power rear sunshade.
Also available on both CX and CXL models is a premium 11-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system with a USB port.
The top-of-the-line LaCrosse CXS comes with all of the above standard and optional features plus 19 inch alloy wheels.
The optional CXS Touring package includes adjustable shock absorbers and unique 19 inch wheels. Also offered as an option for both the CXS and CXL is a hard-drive-based navigation system with a rearview camera and a rear entertainment system with dual headrest displays, as well as a Driver Confidence package featuring a head-up display, blind-spot alerts and adaptive xenon headlights.
Engines, Powertrain And Gas Mileage:
Initially powering the CX and CXL models is a 3.0 liter V6 engine that generates 255 horsepower and 217 pound-feet of torque. Later in the year, the standard engine on the front-wheel drive CX will become an 2.4 liter inline four-cylinder that produces 182 horsepower. CXL models are also available in both front and all-wheel drive, a big advantage for those in snowy locations.
Powering the CXS model is a 3.6 liter V6 that delivers 280 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. All engines are mated with a six-speed automatic transmission.
While EPA fuel economy figures were not yet available for the four-cylinder and 3.6 liter V6 models at the time of this writing, Buick estimates the gas mileage for the four-cylinder at 20 mpg city and 30 mpg on the highway, and 17 mpg city and 27 mpg highway for the 3.6. The EPA rated gas mileage for the 3.0 liter V6 is 17 mpg city and 26 highway. AWD reduces each number by 1 mpg.
Safety:
Standard safety features on all LaCrosse models include traction control, stability control, antilock disc brakes (ABS), front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and OnStar communications. In addition, rear-seat side airbags are available as an option.
Interior:
The new LaCrosse interior is thoroughly modern, well-designed, attractive and user-friendly. Due to high material quality and top-notch fit and finish, the interior oozes an elegant look and feel.
Whether front or rear, seating is roomy, comfortable and supportive, while rear passengers have particularly abundant legroom. It should be noted, however, that this ample interior space comes at the expense of some trunk size, which comes in at a smaller-than-average 13 cubic feet.
Drive:
The drive and handling of the new LaCrosse is smooth and quiet, yet also surprisingly capable and athletic. With its sharper handling, the LaCrosse has become a fun-to-drive sedan. While the power from the base 3.0 liter engine will be fine for most buyers, it's the 3.6 that particularly shines.
Update: Bad Economy Leads To Lower LaCrosse Prices:
Buick's sales have been weak for months, evidence of a continuing poor economy and an especially weak car buying trend. And the current combination of fierce competition and a soft market has created an ideal opportunity for nailing down great deals.
