2010 Chevy Impala Features And Prices

The Impala is a perennial top-seller and the 2010 model is very likely to continue this tradition. It is again an appealing large family sedan for those who value a smooth and quiet ride, a comfortable interior (there's legitimate room for six using the available bench front seat), a large trunk, and solid crash test ratings.
The 2010 Chevrolet Impala is available in three basic trims: base LS, LT, and LTZ.
Standard Features And Options:
Standard features on the already well-equipped LS model include 16 inch steel wheels, full power accessories, dual-zone air conditioning, front bucket seats, a 6-way power driver seat, a tilt steering wheel, OnStar, a 6-speaker CD sound system, satellite radio and an auxiliary audio jack.
The mid-level LT model has all of the above, plus remote engine start, 16 inch alloy wheels, outside temperature display and a compass.
The up-level LTZ then adds a rear spoiler, 18 inch alloy wheels, a firmer suspension, heated outside mirrors, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a power passenger seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a premium Bose 8-speaker sound system and Bluetooth.
Many of the LTZ's features can be added to the LT via several option packages. In addition, a front bench seat is an optional feature on both the LS and LT, while an optional sunroof is available on the LT and LTZ.
Engines, Powertrain And Gas Mileage:
There are two different powertrains available on the 2010 Impala. Powering the LS and LT models is a 3.5 liter V6 engine that generates 211 horsepower and 216 pound-feet of torque. The LTZ is equipped with a 3.9 liter V6 that produces 230 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque.
Both engines are coupled with a four-speed automatic transmission in this front-wheel drive vehicle and both produce respectable gas mileage performance for a large sedan.
The EPA fuel economy ratings for the 3.5 liter V6 come in at 18 mpg city and 29 mpg on the highway. And there's not much of a reduction with the 3.9 liter engine as its gas mileage is rated at 17 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.
Safety:
Standard safety features on all Chevy Impala models include antilock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control, side-impact airbags for front seat occupants and side curtain airbags that cover both rows. In addition, the OnStar emergency system is also standard.
In government crash tests, the Impala received a perfect five (out of five) stars for frontal crash protection for both the driver and passengers. In side-impact testing, it received five stars for the front occupants and four stars for the rear.
Interior:
The Impala's cabin is attractive with a well-designed layout and user-friendly gauges and controls. It's also quite comfortable with seating up to six passengers (for those who opt for the front bench seat), something that has become harder to find these days. In addition to its overall roominess, it's also well insulated from outside noise whether cruising down the highway or taking on city traffic.
Trunk space is also a plus coming in at 18 cubic feet of cargo room. In addition, the fold-flat rear seatbacks and large trunk pass-through (optional on the LS and LT, standard on the LTZ) allow for conveniently transporting longer items.
Drive:
The 2010 Impala is engineered for quiet, smooth and comfortable driving ... and it does this well. It is not trying to impress with high-performance dynamics (especially now that the Impala SS model has been discontinued). The drive is pleasant and competent with solid and confident acceleration, combined with a steady, safe, family-sedan type of approach to winding roads.
Update: Bad Economy Leads To Lower Impala Prices:
Chevy sales have been weak for months, evidence of a continuing poor economy and an especially weak car buying trend. And the current combination of fierce dealer competition and a soft market has created an ideal opportunity for nailing down great deals.
