Recent year-to-year Altima changes:

2003 Nissan Altima: Following the major redesign in 2002, changes in the 2003 model were limited to some minor trim and equipment rearranging. The 2.5 SL sedan became available with only an automatic transmission. An imitation-wood interior trim was introduced, as well as heated seats and mirrors.

Titanium-color interior accents was added to other models. The Sport Package for the 3.5 SE was expanded to include a sunroof and rear spoiler. Also, a new Sport Plus Package added premium audio and xenon headlights.

The Leather Package on the SE added premium sound, a sunroof and heated seats, and a new SE Leather Sport Package added xenon lights and a rear spoiler.

2004 Nissan Altima: The Altima was unchanged for the 2004 model year.

2005 Nissan Altima: The sporty, and soon to be extremely popular and successful, Altima SE-R model was introduced. The SE-R was equipped with an athletic 260 horsepower V6 engine.

All models got a revised interior trim and a navigation system was added as an option.

2006 Nissan Altima: There were no significant changes for the 2006 Altima.

2007 Nissan Altima: The Altima received a freshened styling and additional standard safety features. The Altima sedan was an inch shorter in wheelbase and 2 inches shorter overall.

Front side airbags and curtain airbags became standard features for all models. Traction control became standard on 3.5 models (not available on the 2.5). An antiskid system was an exclusive 3.5-model option. Nissan's navigation system added a rearview camera and a wireless cell phone link was added as an option.

Nissan introduced an Altima coupe, smaller in dimensions, with a sportier nature but the same powertrain choices.

Nissan also introduced the Altima Hybrid, sold only in California and seven specific northeastern states. The Hybrid was equipped with a four-cylinder engine with a CVT and electric motor, producing a total of 198 horsepower.

2008 Nissan Altima: Antilock braking became a standard feature for all models. Also added to the standard list were splash guards and a Diversity Antenna. XM satellite radio was added as an option.
