Used Cadillac SRX Overview And How
To Buy At The Best Price

The history of the Cadillac SRX is really a tale of two vehicles. The first generation was produced from the 2004 through 2009 model years as a midsize SUV. Designed with sporty good looks, it shares the same platform as Cadillac's CTS sport sedan and possesses plenty of power under the hood and agility on the road. The SRX is an appealing SUV for those seeking a combination of luxury and a responsive drive.

The SRX was nearly totally redesigned, however, for 2010 and was produced through the 2016 model year. This version is smaller, less expensive and is build on a front-wheel-drive platform related to the Chevy Equinox, but still has much to offer.

For those possibly interested in purchasing a used SRX, here's a general overview of the available used models:

These first-generation SRX models can be found with either a 260 horsepower 3.6 liter V6 engine or a 320 horsepower 4.6 liter V8. They are also available in both rear-wheel drive (standard) and all-wheel drive (optional) forms.

The SRX can comfortably accommodate four 6-foot+ adults due to a roomy second row. Some used SRX models can also be found with the optional two-person fold-flat third-row seat, something that can't be found on competitors like the Lexus RX 330, the BMW X5 or the Infiniti FX35/45.

As a luxury SUV, a used Cadillac SRX comes with a full complement of safety and luxury-oriented features, including leather upholstery, OnStar, 17 inch alloy wheels, a Bose audio system with a CD player, XM satellite radio, rear park assist, dual-zone automatic climate control, full power accessories, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, front side airbags and head curtain airbags for the first two rows.

Used V8 SRX models also come with a 6-disc CD changer, a power front passenger seat, seat heaters, wood trim accents, and power-adjustable pedals. Some V6 models can also be found with at least some of these features as they were all available options.

Both used models can also be found with other optional features such as a panoramic sunroof, a DVD-based navigation system, GM's Magnetic Ride Control (automatically adjusts suspension settings depending on conditions), the third-row seat and a DVD rear entertainment system (screen is mounted on the center console).

Used 2005 Cadillac SRX

Other standard safety features on all models include stability control and four-wheel antilock disc brakes (with a panic assist feature). In government crash tests, the Cadillac SRX earned a top five star rating for both front and rear passengers for side-impact protection. In frontal-impacts, the SRX received four stars for driver and front-passenger protection.

Also of note to used Cadillac SRX buyers is the fairly significant interior update for the 2007 model year which made for a more attractive cabin and upgraded some of the interior materials. In addition, 2007 saw the introduction of a 6-speed automatic transmission in the V8 models, replacing the previous 5-speed automatic.

The most recent, second SRX generation was completely redesigned for 2010 and produced through 2016. Based on a front-wheel-drive crossover SUV platform (as opposed to the previous rear-drive sport sedan platform), this less expensive version is an appealing entry in the compact luxury SUV segment, offering impressively nimble handling, sporty looks and a well-appointed interior that is serenely quiet.

This new SRX accommodates five-passengers (there is no longer an optional third row) and is equipped with a single engine: a 3.6-liter V6 that pumps out a robust 308 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is optional.

2010 Cadillac SRX Premium Collection

Used SRX shoppers can pick from four models: base, Luxury, Performance and Premium. Even the base model comes well-equipped with standard features such as a power driver seat, dual-zone climate control, 60/40-split-folding and reclining rear seatbacks, an 8-speaker Bose audio system and 18-inch alloy wheels. Upper trims go on to add just about every luxury feature one can hope for, including leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, a power liftgate, xenon headlamps, a sunroof and a hard-drive-based navigation system with a rearview camera. It should also be noted that the all-wheel-drive Performance model also comes with a sport-tuned suspension with continuously variable damping.

Overall, due to its nimble handling, roominess (particularly in pre-2010 models), long list of features and attractive interior (particularly post-2009 models) and exterior designs, we believe the Cadillac SRX makes an excellent used luxury SUV choice.
